Thompson Falls native Lance Corporal Morgan Molzahn is getting a taste if life “down under.”

Molzahn, a member of the 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines is currently deployed to Australia to take part in the famous Talisman Sabre training exercises.

LCpl Molzahn’s mom, Julie, told the Valley Press that even though the battalion was originally based in Darwin (Northern Territory), her son transferred the Townsville (North Queensland) base around two months ago, along with a small contingent of his battalion.

Townsville is not only a garrison city, but is also one of the largest in Australia. The military history is extremely rich within that area. Not to mention that just west of the city, on top of Hervey Range, the Australian Army has a massive training base, which they use on a regular basis.

The Valley Press has been told that the young Marine is thoroughly enjoying his time in the tropical north. From the famous sunsets atop the iconic Castle Hill, to Townsville’s unique night life, LCpl Molzahn seems to be taking the opportunity to experience the city.

The Thompson Falls High School Alum is also said to have taken part in several volunteer events within the community.

The Townsville Bulletin (the local news paper) has documented most of those events the Battalion has taken part in, including spending time at the local animal shelter and also visiting the Ronald McDonald House at the Townsville Hospital.

It is extremely easy to see that LCpl Molzahn fits right in with his troop when it comes to community spirit and giving back.

Townsville is known as a Rural or Country City and it is no wonder ulie says Morgan is having a great time.

Due to the intense exercise currently taking place, the Valley Press was unable to reach LCpl Molzhan at this time, but hopes to connect with him when Talisman Sabre is completed at the end of August.

“We worry, but you can’t let that overwhelm you,” Julie said of having her son deployed. “But we are actually happy Morgan is in Australia because we have always wanted to visit. We [families] are extremely proud of all our sons serving and doing their part to serve our county.”
