St. Regis insurance rate may improve

As of May 1, St. Regis home and property owners could see a savings on their insurance. Kat Kittridge, assistant fire chief with the St. Regis Fire, Emergency Services (ES) reported that their ISO rating went down and this results in the insurance savings.

When ES has training sessions it helps with county homeowners insurance premiums. ISO is an advisory organization and helps departments with certifications. With the Public Protection Classification program, ISO evaluates municipal fire-protection efforts in communities.

“A community’s investment in fire mitigation is a proven and reliable predictor of future fire losses,” according to a statement by their organization. They offer many facilities and practices that communities should have to fight fires effectively. Their schedule is performance based and assigns credit points to each item. Using the credit points and various formulas, ISO calculates a total score on a scale of 0 to 105.5.
