Reunion for 1958, 1959 Superior classes held in Oregon

Twenty-five current and former Mineral County residents headed for the Whispering Woods Resort at Welches, Oregon for a class reunion. The reunion was for Superior High School classes of 1958 and 1959 with friends. It was held on May 15-18 near Mt. Hood and was hosted by Gaylord and Marcia Green. This was the first time for some but the second and third time for others and the event is always hosted by the Greens. The first evening we all met for dinner and got re-acquainted again.

Due to heavy rain, hail and snow, we all gathered in one condo where posters of classes, news articles, annuals, memories and stories of the past were presented the first day. That evening was a wonderful salmon dinner gifted by Betty Dawn and Richard Norlander in their condo with pot luck from the others in the group. Several women took salmon to their condos and baked in their ovens with each having their own way of preparing the dish which made a nice variety.

Imagine our surprise to hear from home the next morning that there was four more inches of snow. The rain there tapered off and we had some very competitive croquette games. Winners of the tournament were Betty Dawn Norlander and Don Frey and they won $300.

That evening was a special dinner and a show put together of past reunions by Gaylord. Deborah Lewis made up a wonderful book of pictures of Superior Class Reunions for classes of 1958 and 1959 with friends for years 2006-2016. Last year’s reunion on Saturday at Rick Jaspers and Sunday at Savenac were included.

Thursday morning was a wonderful brunch and many group pictures were taken before heading back home. For some, a long trip and others, not so bad. There was talk already of future reunions.
