Alberton seeks city candidates

The deadline is drawing near to file for the open seats on the Alberton Town Council said a post by Glenda Wallace on the Alberton, Montana Community Facebook page. Alberton’s current mayor, Josh Acker is not seeking re-election which also leaves the mayor’s seat open. All of the Council Members seats are up for re-election. “A rare occurrence due to some previous resignations and special elections,” says Wallace.

Normally council members are elected to four-year terms that are staggered and so that there are two open council seats during each election. But in the November election there will be two two-year Council Member terms and they are for the remaining two-years on the original term. Also, there are two-four year terms. Current board members are Marvin Garding; Salinas Bartel; Jaime Odell; and John Bigart III.

The jobs come with small monthly stipends. The first day to file was April 20 with an application deadline of June 19. Applicants fill out a “Declaration for Nomination and Oath of Candidacy” and then they sent to the Mineral County Elections Office with a small filing fee.

Town council candidates must be 18 years old and must be a resident of the town for at least 60 days to be eligible. To run for Mayor, candidates must be at least 21 years old and be a resident of Alberton for at least two years and a Montana resident for at least three years. Applications are available online at sos.mt.gov/elections/forms or they can be picked up in the Town Office.
