Baseball Beach Party celebrates end of season with carnival fun

St. Regis Youth Baseball players congregated in Saint Regis Park on Saturday for an afternoon of carnival fun to celebrate another successful season. This is the third year the young players, along with siblings and parents gathered for their annual “Baseball Beach Party” to enjoy a day of play, food and awards.
Michelle Simkins, the leagues coordinator thanked the sponsors who support the team, as well as the parents who volunteered their time coaching and helping with the league.
“If it wasn’t for our sponsors we wouldn’t have a baseball league. It’s truly a blessing that we have such generous businesses here and in Superior,” she said. The businesses and families who donate are recognized with banners hung around the baseball field.
During the carnival, kids took turns sitting the dunking booth as their peers threw a ball at the red circle to try and immerse them into the tank of water. There was also an inflatable bouncy house, a water slide, and other fun inflatable pools. Everyone also enjoyed a BBQ and an awards ceremony. Each player received a medal and a signed baseball. There was also a big cake with a tiger that read “Great Season Tigers”.
This is the Clark Fork Valley League and is open to ages 4 through 12 and is divided into T-ball, Rookie, Minors and Majors. The teams consist of players from Superior, Plains, St. Regis, and Thompson Falls. Trout Creek and Hot Springs are also in the league but they didn’t have enough players for this season.
There were seven coaches for St. Regis this year and registration started in March with the season ending in mid-June.
Simkins said it was difficult to schedule the event because there has been so much going on in the small community. Last week was the Trail Rail Run and next weekend is the Mineral County Mud and Country mud bog races.
Though the weather had been unpredictable last week with days of rain and cooler temperatures, Saturday turned out to be sunny and warm. Which was a good thing since the party centered around water games. Simpkins was worried about the weather and the cold water used for the games. The inflatables didn’t get installed until just before the party began and there wasn’t time for the water to warm up. But that didn’t seem to stop the kids from having a great time.
