Six Democrats from Mineral County attended the Democratic Special Nominating Convention and participated in the process that resulted in the nomination of musician Rob Quist.

On a statewide basis, the Democratic Central Committee from each county (that has a committee) is able to send up to four voting delegates (the overall preference is two women and two men), which includes the persons holding the positions of chair, vice chair, committeeman, and committeewoman (or their alternates)on the local level.

Others who hold a vote include voting members of the State Executive Board, representatives from Montana Democratic Party partnered organizations, and Democrats holding the positions of the Lt. Governor, Clerk of the Supreme Court or Public Service Commissioner. At Sunday’s convention there were a total of 160 votes and a simple majority (50 percent plus one) determined the outcome of the election.

Delegates from Mineral County included Diane Magone (Chair), John Woodland (Vice Chair), Polly McNeal (Alternate Committeewoman), and Tim Spangler (Alternate Committeman). Micki Tourtelotte and Deborah Lewis also attended.

The Mineral County Democratic Central Committee reformed last month and is now on the ground running. The next meeting, tentatively scheduled for Saturday, March 18, will focus on campaign strategy and the planning of a fundraiser to introduce Quist.

As a newly formed committee, the Mineral County Democratic Central Committee is welcoming new members. Contact Magone at 822-4429 or Woodland at 822-4317.
