Local business projects receive state grants

Economic development projects in Kalispell, Libby, Polson and Hot Springs have received grant funding through the Montana Big Sky Economic Development Trust Fund.

Gov. Steve Bullock last Wednesday announced $374,031 in grants to help businesses in 15 Montana communities and assist Main Street Montana businesses with plans for growth.

Montana West Economic Development, based in Kalispell, received $6,750 to assist 431 First Avenue West, LLC, with the completion of a discovery and design development plan. The business intends to redevelop the building for multiple professional tenants as well as update the building to today’s environmental and Americans With Disabilities Act standards.

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribe received $27,000 to complete a financial analysis and preliminary design work for the Camas Bathhouse site in Hot Springs.

Kootenai River Development Council, Inc. received $10,692 to complete an implementation plan for a wayfinding system in the Libby area. Wayfinding signs will connect visitors with activities that interest them and encourage report visitation by increasing awareness and the depth of the destination.

Kootenai River Development Council, Inc. also received $21,010 to assist the Lincoln County Port Authority with the completion of a preliminary engineering report to support a capital improvement plan to address water system deficiencies and infrastructure needs within the Kootenai Business Park. A potable water system is needed as the necessary first step for future development with the park that previously housed the former Stimson Lumber Company.

Lake County Community Development Corporation received $5,750 to assist Vassallo Beverage LLC, doing business as Tipu’s Chai, with the completion of a strategic branding report. Tipu’s Chai blends its own mix of spices and Indian tea. The company is based in Polson.
