Horsemen can't hold off Charlo at home

It wasn’t the game the Plains Horsemen were hoping for as they head into their homecoming week.
The boys fell to the Charlo Vikings 50-15 on Friday. Though they came up short of the win, there was no doubt about the effort given on the field. Plains was successful in holding off the visitors in the first half, before the second half proved the Vikings too strong.
Horsemen Coach Eddie Fultz said though they suffered the loss, he was still happy with his team as they had a no-quit attitude on the field.
“Charlo’s a hard team to play, there’s a reason they are No. 1 at the moment. But the boys did what they could, we got some good hard hits and some good passes, just not enough,” Fultz said.
Coach Fultz also said with the loss of the game for his team, they will now see the homecoming game as more of a defacto playoff for his team to keep the number two position in the competition.
“The boys are getting more comfortable in their positions. There were a couple of plays that didn’t go our way, but they are getting in there and giving it all they have,” said Fultz.
Within the first minutes of the game, Charlo took the lead on a 28-yard run for a touchdown to lock in the first points on the board.
It seemed to take the Horsemen a few minutes after the kick off to settle down. Missed tackles led to the first two touchdowns from Charlo in under 10 minutes.
After a pep talk and huddle, Plains quarterback Kyle Weeks (14) threw a long pass to Jay Vonheeder (55) into the endzone. This would be the first of three plays that would see the Horsemen lock points onto the score board.
Not long after Plains was able to take advantage of a fumble from the Charlo side.
Weeks read the play and positioned himself perfectly to take the fumble and run to the endzone, securing the second touchdown for the Horsemen.
Unfortunately, the conversion did not stick and that’s where the scoreboard would stand for the Horsemen the rest of the game.
Vikings Landers Smith (3) led the visitors to a 16-point lead after he made a 47-yard run for a touchdown then added conversion.
After the second half kick off, the home crowd got on their feet as Ovitt (10) intercepted a pass from Charlo to gain control of the ball.
Shortly after Weeks threw a long pass, but came up short for the catch.
The third quarter saw much more ball handling with fewer tackles as both teams looked to take advantage of defensive line openings.
Charlo’s Smith (3) made a 47-yard run for a touchdown with added completion to Sabin Perry (81).
Smith again was in the right place at the right time to take control of the ball for Charlo for another Viking touchdown after a 65-yard run. The Horsemen were successful in holding off the extra point for the visitors.
Horseman Rusty Stuart (67) made a dive toward Charlo to put a stop on a conversion after the Vikes Smith (3) made the 15-yard run to the endzone.
