Fairgrounds dims its holiday twinkle

The Sanders County Fairgrounds won’t be lit up this winter like its has been in past years — the Grinch of time has taken its hold on old twinkle lights.

At the recent fairground board meeting, members said that while they would like to be able to light up the grounds, the old lights aren’t up to the task. After years of slowly decaying, there are no new lights that are available that are power efficient, either.

With minimal lights, paired with the electricity costs, there isn’t much they will be able to do, the board said.

Board members said that current budget constraints are the culprit to not being able to replace old lighting strings with new. Accompanied by the costs of labor to go through each individual strand to pull what they can was another luxury they weren’t able to put forth.

The main entrance will however have some lights that will be up with basic decorations. A small nativity scene and the flag pole turned into the shape of a Christmas tree will be the main features this year.

Board members said they would welcome any safe working Christmas twinkle lights and displays should anyone from the public look to donate.
