The Highway 135 Beautification and Safety Enhancement Project located north of the 4-way stop in St. Regis was recently completed. The projected was funded with the St. Regis Resort Tax, an $85,000 Community Transportation Enhancement Program Grant, a $465,000 Transportation Alternative Program Grant and an $8,000 grant from the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation for trees.

The project included sidewalks on the north side of the highway and an asphalt path on the south side. The sidewalk extends from St. Regis Street to Main Street and the asphalt path runs from the Exxon gas station to the cemetery. A crosswalk, lights and signage were also included in the project. In the future, the St. Regis Resort District would like to add decorative lights, grass and trees.

The community supported project was a top priority and not only made Highway 135 more attractive but also made the area safer for pedestrians and bicyclists said project spokesperson, Jessica Connolly.
