It was a close game when looking at the scoreboard for three of the four games in Tuesday night’s match. The Hot Springs Lady Savages came out with a 3-1 win against the Plains Trotters.
“We come in very young compared to other teams, and we also have a height disadvantage as well,” said Hot Springs Head Coach Alisha Pablo. “I’m really happy with how the girls played, they dug deep and did a great job tonight,” she added.
From the start of the match, the Lady Savages seemed to conquer the court against the Plains Trotters. Though when it came down to the last few minutes of each games both teams were seen gunning for a win.
“We only have seven on the team, so for the first regular season game it’s great to come away with a win against a strong opposing team,” said Pablo.
Strong defense and offensive plays on both teams made it for an exciting game. On more than one occasion a good set rally really rallied the crowd on both sides.
“We need to do a little fine tuning with the girls in the upcoming practices for sure. A change in defense strategies will also be something that we coaches will be looking to strengthen,” said Pablo.
With such a young team consisting of mostly sophomores, could be the set up for the Hot Springs Varsity side in years ahead. That doesn’t stop the coaches from looking towards this season especially with a strong start.
“I’m very positive about this season. We have one senior on the team Stacy Gray and she really is the calm to the storm for the rest of the girls. She sets up a good ideal of what an athlete should do both on and off the court. This is something really special that the team gets feed off and learn,” added Pablo.
