Clark Fork Adventure Challenge cancelled

| September 14, 2017 7:35 PM

Greetings All,

It is with great sadness that I am informing you of the cancellation of the Clark Fork Adventure Challenge for the 2017 race year. We are already planning the 2018 race and hope that we can count on your participation next year.

Several things went into the decision to cancel the event some of these are:

1. The air quality currently in our valley is hovering between hazardous and unhealthy and there seems to be no relief in site.

2. Currently with the Highway 200 Complex which includes the Sheep Gap Fire, continues to burn and has very little containment. The Mountain Bike course went through both public and private land and one of the areas, the most significant area was closed by the owner for safety of the community.

3. Our staging area, the Sanders County Fairgrounds, had a fire over the weekend and the pavilion where we would have based was damaged and is unavailable to us.

4. With the extreme fire conditions and the inability to get personnel to fight the fire, we didn’t want to place additional pressure on the system by taking EMS personnel away from the fire to support our event. Iin fact our concern was that there might not be personnel available.

This is a partial list, but lays out the thought process for our deciding to cancel the race. The reason for conducting the race still remains, raising funds to support the work of Clark Fork Valley Hospital. The hospital foundation remains committed to offering the Adventure Challenge annually and are already in the preliminary stages of planning next years event. We will be in touch with you about refunding your registration fee or crediting it to next years Adventure Challenge.

Executive Director
