Plains Elementary holds Kindergarten Round-Up
Around 30 soon-to-be kindergarten students recently made their way to Plains Elementary School to meet their teachers.
Kindergarten teachers Katie Hillerman and Jessica Nagy greeted each prospective new student at the annual Kindergarten Round-Up day.
The little ones went through five learning stations to test their cognitive skills, which included speech, eye sight, hearing, health and development.
Kendall was one of the first students to arrive and she was escorted through the stations by her mother Whitney.
She was vibrant with each of the teachers as they asked her questions, but was a little nervous about what to expect.
Jayce also seemed a little nervous as he went through the stations doing the basic testing, but he had his buddy Ryker who was full of life as he reassured his buddy about how exciting it was to get to go to school next year.
“My favorite sticker is the smelly one. It smells like stars,” said Ryker.
“My sticker smells like lipsticks,” said Madyson who also attended.
“It’s a great day to meet the kids, and for them to meet us before they start school,” said Hillerman.
“With the testing we do, it also really helps us gauge where each new student is so we can make sure they get the most out of their learning,” she added.
In previous years, the new students got a couple of days of “Kinder Kamp” before the new school year; however this year they were just coming in for round-up day.
“We have changed it up this year, but it also allows this year’s kinder classes to be involved with the end-of-year celebrations and participate with the rest of the students in the school,” said Hillerman.
Next year on the first day of school their may be a few tears, but there will certainly be a lot of smiles as the pre-kinders looked to have a bucket full of fun meeting each other on the Kindergarten Round-Up day.
