The Plains Trotters have developed a reputation for throwers and the Horsemen, who now have additional players from the football team, are carving a niche of their own in the jumping events.

Sinjin LaDeaux captured first in the high jump recording a distance of 5 feet, 10 inches.

LaDeaux also finished fourth in the long jump levitating to a jump of 18 feet, 10.5 inches. His teammate Brandon Managhan placed right behind LaDeaux, placing second in the long jump and triple jump. Managhan recorded jumps of 5 feet, 10 inches, a long jump of 20 feet, 2 inches and triple jump of 40 feet, 0.25 inches, a personal record

“We have some really good jumpers (this year),” Montgomery said. “(Our jumpers) just had a really good meet on Friday.”

Conrad Vanderwall finished 8th in the long jump leaping to 18 feet, 1.5 inches, a personal record for him.

Rusty Stuart and Malachi Paulsen have developed reputations for being good throwers.

Stuart had a third-place finish in the shot put, a fourth-place finish in the shot put and a third-place finish in the javelin. Stuart recorded a throw of 39 feet in the shot put, a throw of 110 feet, 6 inches in discus and 143 feet, 5.50 inches in the javelin at the Dave Tripp Memorial.

“It was kind of cool conditions and windy and we had great performances by the kids in both meets,” Montgomery said.

Jessica Thompson’s teammate Kara Altmiller was right behind Thompson in the throwing events at the Dave Tripp Memorial Invite Friday afternoon at Polson High School.

Altmiller finished second behind Thompson in shot put, recording a throw of 30 feet, 8 inches.

Rachel Huenink finished third in discus with a throw of 84 feet, 10 inches, and Altmiller also finished fourth recording a throw of 91 feet, 9.50 inches.

Altmiller, who qualified for discus at state with a throw of 112 feet, 8 inches at Jim Johnson in Frenchtown, continues to improve significantly, according to Montgomery.

Cree Lulack, Lindsay Laws, and freshman Mariah Smith also shined in various events.

Lulack finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 55.24 seconds and also finished 8th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.60 seconds.

“She is coming off of a really strong year for us,” Montgomery said of Lulack.

Lindsay Laws finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles recording a time of 19.25, a personal record and Montgomery said she might add Laws to additional events.

“She is a hard worker and talented, too,” Montgomery said. “She has to work for everything and that sets some of our kids apart because she knows how to work.”

Mariah Smith, a Plains freshman, finished 10th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 30.36, a personal record at the Dave Tripp Memorial In Polson.
