Douglas Ovitt

Douglas Ray Ovitt lost his valiant battle to cancer on July 20, 2018.

Doug was born to Wilfred and Mary Ovitt on Nov. 7, 1949, in Bottineau, N.D.

He graduated from Bottineau High School in 1968. Doug served in the U.S. military from 1970 to 1972, stationed in Germany.

Doug married Robin Machin on July 22, 1972, in Plains, Mont. He spent many years working at Diehl Lumber Co, WI Forest Products and for eight years at Northern Energy, where he delivered propane and made many new friends. He loved to hunt and camp, especially on Little Thompson River.

Doug was preceded in death by his wife, Robin; daughter, Donna Lee; parents, Wilfred Ovitt and Mary Pearson; brothers, Allan Ovitt and Gary Ovitt; sister, Kathy Helland; in-laws, Roland and Donna McCrea; and sister-in-law, Kathy Legard.

He is survived by his son, Russell (Jacee) and daughter, Angela (Rick), both of Plains; four grandchildren, Dezarae, Beau, James and Mariah, all of Plains; five brothers, Rodney of North Dakota, Dennis (Helen) of Plains, Tim (Karen) of Wisconsin, Jay (Brenda) of Minnesota, and Glen Pearson of Billings; four sisters, Marilyn (Jim) Bergman and Lona (Lowell) Trochman, both of Minnesota; Winnie (Stephen) Welty of Plains, and Susan (Mike) Kankelfritz of North Dakota; sister-in-law, Julie (James) of Plains; brother-in-law, Toby McCrea of Plains; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Doug is also survived by special friends Mike Kilgore and P.J. LaPointe.

Memorial service will be at Plains Alliance Church on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018, at 1 p.m. A meal at the VFW will follow the service.

Doug — you will be missed for your generosity, quick wit and honesty.
