Montana Aussie Adventures with Erin-Jay

“Take me out to the ball game, take me out with the crowd, Buy me some peanuts and crackerjack, I don’t care if I never get back...”

Yep, it may not have been the big ballpark of a Major League Baseball game, but it was fantastic to not only get out on the field and grab some photos but to also then go back after I finished work for the day and just enjoy watching a few mates play.

Funny enough, I actually kind of grew up on the baseball fields when I was little, long before I discovered my love of horses.

I played up on the East Coast of the U.S. in Little League and what not, played fastpitch and made the travel team.

I always say I was so fortunate to have my dad as a coach. He coached me and plenty of friends that we still talk about those fun days as a kid every now and then.

There’s no doubt that the game can produce some fantastic life-long friendships that it may not even be because you played, but because a friend or family member played the game and you got to sit and watch with enjoyment from the bleachers.

One of the highlights, well not sure if it’s a real highlight, but Saturday afternoon saw storms rolling across the tops of the ridges, and taking a long while before opening up on the ballfields late that night.

With so many people down at the Plains fields, it was really cool to see the community was popping in and out to cheer on a local team, or just check it out and enjoy a day in the sun.

Like rodeo, it always amazes me how you can strike up a conversation during a game and start talking about the best of the best that have graced the sport.

I had that conversation with someone as we were watching the game, and it all came about from one simple play. I think that is truly amazing.

However, though I have gotten out and about this past week, I know it’s been a little more than hot for some; but all I can say is, just remember how cold it gets in winter.

For me, I am loving the hot weather, though I am fully aware of how dry it is getting as well.

Knowing and watching the landscape change, I am thankful so far that our local fire crews have been able to get to the small handful of grass fires that have been popping up here and there.

Knowing that one little spark could set the fire season in full motion. So with that, if you are reading this, just bare in mind that even though this is a complete contrast to this time last year, we all need to do our part to keep this year a hopeful fire-free year.

With that, know the summer weeks are now heading downward toward the fall season, and school is just around the corner.

Those kids headed off to college — make sure you pack as much fun into the last few weeks as you can, because it will be gone in a blink of the eye when the fall semester starts.

I don’t say this to worry you, I say that because I believe life should be enjoyed and I hope everyone gets to enjoy the 2018 summer as much as I have been able to.

So I think I will leave it there for this week. There is so much coming up that I hope I get to catch up with everyone at all the events I am able to get to around the county.
