What a way to kick off you high school wrestling career …

Trae Thilmony, a freshman on the Thompson Falls/Noxon team, captured the 113-pound title in the 20-team Owen Invitational held Friday and Saturday at Salish Kootenai College in Pablo.

The tourney was hosted by Polson High School, and featured teams from C, B, A and AA classifications.

Teamwise, Thompson Falls/Noxon finished in 11th place, just behind Mission/Charlo and a mere one-half point out of the top 10. The Blue Hawks totaled 89 points.

Roman Sparks, Seth Alarcon and Dakota Irvine were also place winners for the Blue Hawks.

Polson won the team title by a single point over Lake City. Frenchtown was third, followed by Sentinel, Columbia Falls, Eureka, Belgrade, Libby, Florence and Mission/Charlo to round out the top 10.

Thilmony breezed through the 113-pound bracket. Early in the tourney, the Thompson Falls student earned a first-period fall over Lydia Rosbarsky of Hellgate.

IN THE championship match Saturday afternoon, Thilmony dominated junior Caden Hess of Lake City. When the final buzzer sounded to end the third period, Thilmony had earned a 10-1 major decision and the first-place medal.

Sparks also had an excellent tournament in the 126-pound class. He was pinned by Dante Venema of Corvallis in match for third place.

At heavyweight, or 285 pounds, Alarcon finished in style. He stuck Dylan Robbins of Sentinel to the mat just 28 seconds into the second of three periods.

Irvine was also a medal winner. He wrestled for fifth place against Tate Jones of Frenchtown at 182 pounds. However, Jones scored on a takedown and escape for a narrow 3-0 decision, and Irvine settled for sixth place.

The Thompson Falls/Noxon wrestling team is back in action this Thursday, competing in the Plains/Hot Springs Quad at Hot Springs High School, joining the host squad, Arlee and Eureka. The first whistles blow shortly after 6 p.m.

The Blue Hawks then take part in the Bob Kinney Classic Saturday at Superior, hosted by the Clark Fork Mountain Cats.
