Savage-Horsemen wrestling sends six to state
The Savage-Horsemen put up a great showing at divisionals last weekend.
“Six Savage Horsemen are headed to state after the weekends Western B/C Divisional tournament,” said assistant coach Jake Lile.
Lile said he was impressed with all his wrestlers.
“Peter Carey, a freshman, punched his ticket by placing fourth at 113 pounds. He is headed to state as a freshman, that doesn’t happen very often,” he added.
Other wrestler standouts include Conrad Vanderwall, a sophomore who took third at 120 pounds, avenging a previous loss to his opponent Kyle Durden from Eureka.
Daniel Uli, a senior ,also earned a divisional championship at 126 pounds. Uli is now setting his sights on a state title this coming weekend in Billings.
Josiah Vanderwall, a junior, placed second at 132 pounds. While Austin Stafford, another senior, placed third at 145 pounds.
Senior Luke Lile, placed fourth at 160 pounds.
Head coach Jeff Kujala said he was impressed with his wrestlers that qualified.
“We’ve achieved what we set out to achieve during the season. Now the team will head to Billings this Thursday,” he said.
“Daniel is looking awesome and ready to win a state championship. All of our guys are capable of placing at state this next weekend. I think we’re poised for a good showing in Billings,” said Lile as the team prepares for state.
Thompson Falls Blue Hawks were a standout team during the divisional tournament.
Hawk wrestlers took more than a handful of matches during the event.
