Lenten lunches will begin Feb. 20 at the Senior Center in Superior. These are open to everyone and are free of charge. There will be a free-will basket at the check-in table. These donations will be distributed at the end of Lent to non-profit organizations such as We Care, Food Bank, Women in Timber or other recipients determined by the committee. One year we donated to the swimming pool.

These lunches will be soup and bread, each provided by a different church group. There will be a brief devotion after everyone has eaten, presented by the leader of the hosting church.

Dates are Tuesdays at noon, Feb. 20 and 27, March 6, 13, and 20. There is a possibility of a bus to pick up those who don’t drive or just need a ride. Call Nancy Wilson at 822-4548 or 274-1033 for more information.

Thank you for Valentine’s fundraiser

The advisory board of the Saint Regis Senior Center would like to thank the people of the area for attending and local business and individuals who donated prizes for the raffles at the Valentine’s fundraiser. Thank you to Hazel Cromwell, our cook, the kitchen and waitress helpers, and music provided by Vickie Carrott. You all helped to make this event a great success.

Week dedicated to quitting ‘chew’

Mineral County Health Department Tobacco Prevention Specialist Barb Jasper, RN reminds the public that “Through with Chew Week” is February 18-24.

“Studies for over 50 years have shown that tobacco is killing us,” said Jasper. “Millions of people have quit using and there are more ex-users in America than there are tobacco addicts. Cigarettes, chewing tobacco, snuff and cigars are all part of an expensive and unhealthy habit.”

People who are addicted to tobacco can break out of the habit by calling the Montana QuitLine (1-800-QUIT-NOW) for information about counselors, nicotine replacement therapy and discounted medication.

Farm law workshop offered in Missoula

The Community Food & Agriculture Coalition and Farm Commons will host Sustainable Farm Law workshops at Missoula College, Feb. 24 and 25. Workshops will cover legal aspects of land lease and purchase, sales contracts, insurance, employment law, food safety, farm events, and value added production. Senior meals

St. Regis Senior Center serves lunch every Thursday at noon and on the fourth Monday of every month at 6 p.m. Feb. 15, chicken fried steak; Feb. 22, hearty chili; Feb. 26, spaghetti and meatballs; Feb. 28, stuffed green peppers.

The Superior Senior Center is now serving free dinners to residents who are 90-years and older. They serve dinner every Wednesday starting at 4:30 p.m.

The Alberton Senior Center serves lunches on Tues. and Thurs. at noon.

Magbags fundraiser Feb. 25

PEAK Foundation in Alberton will be holding a Magbag Bingo fundraiser on Feb. 25. Magbags are locally made bags, purses backpacks in various styles. Each bag will be outfitted with themed prizes. When you win Bingo, you win a bag plus some really fun items. Proceeds support PEAK’s most recent town park project. Gianforte will be in DeBorgia Feb. 17

Fourteen residents of Montana are receiving an award from Rep. Greg Gianforte for their works in their communities of combined efforts of military and civilian service.

Bruce Charles, one of the recipients of this prestigious award lives in DeBorgia and the public is invited to attend this ceremony and visit with our congressman on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. in the Old DeBorgia Schoolhouse.

Gianforte would like to hear what is on the minds of Mineral County residents, and especially veterans, following the award presentation.

Procurement event set for Feb. 15

Montana Procurement Technical Assistance Center is hosting a Matchmaking Event on Thursday, Feb. 15 from 9 to 3 p.m. in Billings. It’s an opportunity for businesses to explore opportunities with government agencies. There is no charge to attend but registration is required at montanaptac.org.
