Plains teams have momentum heading into postseason play

This past week saw the end of the regular season before teams across the county begin to head into the postseason on the courts.

Plains Horsemen and Trotters took advantage on the home courts in front of a packed gymnasium on Saturday night.

The girls hit the courts first and unfortunately for the Noxon Lady Devils the Trotters proved to be a force on the courts.

A stark contrast to the beginning of the season the girls slipped into sync straight from the tip-off.

Quick feet and constant chatter saw ball skills take the advantage and of course Plains senior Trotter Lindsay Laws found the sweet spot on the three-point line.

Other standout Trotter players were Kassidy Kinzie, Hayley Josephson, Analisa Loberg and Jessica Thompson.

Though the Trotters led for much of the whole game, the Lady Devils of Noxon kept climbing back into the last period.

However, the home side continued an electrifying performance all the way down to the last buzzer of the game.

Final score for the girls varsity was 46-38 to the Trotters.

The Horsemen took the court next, pumped from the recent win they saw from the Trotters, the boys aimed to hit their stride from the start.

Though the boys began the game not as dominating as seen in the past, it didn’t take them long to get their pull back.

Tanner Ovitt took advantage of the Red Devil plays and when he saw an opening he went for the three-point shots that he’s nailed all season long.

Fellow senior Horsemen Jay Vonheeder also took advantage to play for the win. Vonheeder played hard offense from the start and took advantage of defensive plays when required.

Matt McCracken also made it onto the court in the second period, with his combined quick ball handling skills along with his talents as a shooter McCracken helped the home side take the lead.

Once Derick Curry made his way to the court, he was able to sink 13 points for the home side helping take the Horsemen to a final score of 51-35.

It was a fitting end to the season for both of the Plains variety sides. Both teams showed that the senior players took the lead and what had been a rocky start proved to be a strong finish for both sides.
