The Clark Fork Mountain Cat girls swept through the 13C District tournament with an undefeated season to take home the championship trophy. The Cats faced Seeley-Swan in the Saturday evening game with a stellar win, 57-41.

“It feels really good taking the championship,” said Head Coach Jeff Schultz. “The girls worked really hard all season. Basketball is a long season and you put in three months of hard work for it to pay off all at the end. Divisionals is one more step that we’re trying to get to and hopefully we can finish it out.”

This is the first district win for the Alberton/Superior Co-op, and Schultz hopes they can continue to make history and take home the divisional trophy as well.

“We’re going to face some great teams and we need to take care of business on offense and we need to slow it down and reverse the ball more on defense,” said Schultz. “We need to make sure we’re rotating and all the time we need to communicate on the court. If we do those things we’ll be in a good spot.”

Teamwork is the key to the Clark Fork girls, with most of them playing together over the past three years on the co-op. Schultz says it takes a few years for everyone to figure out the system and now it’s showing in both the girls and boys teams.

If the girls win at Divisionals in Hamilton Feb. 23-25, it will be the first time since 1986 that a Superior team has gone to State and the first time since the mid-1960s that an Alberton team stepped into the arena. Last year, the Lady Cats finished in second place at 13C Districts but lost both their Divisional games.
