St. Regis takes loss against Plains during Jan. 4 games, girls 50-48, boys 62-5
St. Regis basketball teams faced Plains teams on the road on Jan. 4 where both succumbed to their opponents. The Lady Tigers had a great showing and met defeat by only two points with a final score of 50-48.
The Tigers came out strong in the first half of the game putting 17 points on the board in the first quarter while the Trotters lagged with only five points. In the second quarter the Trotters didn’t fare much better with seven points to the Tigers 15 bringing the half-time score to 32-14.
But then game saw a flip and in the third quarter the Tigers had five points to the Trotters 13, tightening the score 37-27. In the fourth and final quarter the Trotters found their stride and managed another 23 points to the Tiger’s 11 to pull out the two-point win.
Senior Anna Sanford was the team’s high scorer with 15 points, followed by Emma Hill with 12. Kylee Thompson, a sophomore, had 11, and both Madison Kelly and Justice Tate had 5 points.
In the boys game the Plains Horsemen galloped over the Tigers 62-5. The Horsemen came out of the gate strong in the first quarter putting 27 points on the board locking the Tigers out completely. In the second quarter they put up another 22 points with the Tigers at one. Only four points were put up by the Tigers in the second half to the Horsemen’s 13. Both Nic Day and Andrew Sanford scored 2 points and Ian Farris 1.
Mixed bag as Clark Fork Mountain Cats face Two Eagle River on Jan. 4, girls 61-7, boys 48-36
The Clark Fork Mountain Cats faced Two Eagle River during a matchup in Superior on Jan. 4, where the boys lost by a 12-point margin, 48-36 and the Lady Cats clobbered the Eagles, 61-7. In the ladies game the Cats shut out the Eagles in the first half putting 51 points up to zero. In the second half the Cats had matching 5 point scores in the third and fourth quarters to the Eagles 4 and 3 points. Madison Lommen and Montanna Baughman, both seniors, lead the team with 13 points each. Sophia Krutilla and Hailey Kelly had 8 points each and Madison Mask had 10. Kinzie Mueller and Madison Courser had 4, and Katharine Parkin 1.
In the boy’s game both teams raced neck-and-neck on the court all evening. In the first quarter the Cats held a slim margin with 11 points to the Eagles 8. By the half the Eagles held a slight lead, 22-19. In the third quarter the Eagles again put up 14 points to the Cats 9 putting the score 36-28. In the fourth and final quarter the Eagles added another 12 to their tally to the Cats 8 for a final win of 48-36.
Freshman, Carson Callison lead the Cats with 14 points followed by Michael Spence with 7, Bryan Mask with 4, Aaron Waddle, Connor Voll and Korey Radford with 3 each.
Lady Tigers dominate Pirates in Victor; girls 63-15, boys 49-45
On Jan. 5 the Clark Fork Mountain Cats traveled to Victor where the Lady Cats leapt over the Pirates, 63-15. However, the boys met defeat with the Pirates winning by a slim margin of 49-45. During the boy’s game, Victor took the first quarter with a strong lead putting 14 points up to the Cats 6. In the second quarter, a reversal took place and the Cats put up 13 to the Pirates 7 creating a half-time score of 21-19 in Victor’s favor by a bucket.
In the third quarter, the team’s raced head-to-head with the Cats putting up one more basket with 17-15 points during the quarter ending it in a tie, 36-36. But in the end, the Pirates managed to put up an additional four points, ending the game 48-45.
Carson Callison led the team with 16 points, Bryan Mask 13, freshman Aaron Waddle had 7. Connor Voll 3, Hewston Coon, Danner Haskins and Korey Radford all had 2 points.
During the girl’s matchup the Lady Cats came out snarling in the first quarter and put up 26 points to the Pirates 2. They continued their assault and led 42-10 by the half. In the second half, the Pirates only managed another 5 points, ending the game 63-15. Both Madison Lommen and Hailey Kelly, seniors, put up 12 points each for team high scorers. Kenzie Mueller had 8, Montanna Baughman, 6, Madison Mask, 11. Kylie Plakke had 5, Emmah Baughman, 4, Sophia Krutilla 3 and Katherine Parkin, 2.
St. Regis Lady Tigers shut out Two Eagle River; boys meet defeat
Two Eagle River traveled to St. Regis on Jan. 6 to face the Tigers where the boys lost 51-26 and the Lady Tigers won 61-9. The Lady Tigers shut out the Eagles in both the first and third quarters. In the second and fourth quarter, the Lady Eagle’s only managed 4 and 5 points in each. Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers kept the game going at a steady clip putting up 18 points in the first quarter, 17 in the second, 15 in the third and 11 in the fourth for the final 61-9 win.
Junior, Emma Hill, had an outstanding game putting 24 points on the board, followed by Justice Tate who had 18. Both Madison Kelly and Kylee Thompson had 8 points each and Anna Sanford, 3.
In the boy’s matchup, the Eagles came out strong in the first quarter and put up 15 points to the Tigers 4. In both the second and third quarter they had 13 points to the Tigers 7 and 8. Putting the final 10 points up in the fourth quarter to the Tigers 7 for a final win of 51-26.
Nic Day led the team with 6 points followed by Andrew Sanford and Ian Farris who each had 4 and Ryan Teeter had 2.
