Thompson Falls confident heading into second half of season

Head coach Jake Mickelson of the Thompson Falls varsity Hawks says he is pleased with the progress his team is making this season.
“I feel as though our team is getting better and better,” said Mickelson.
“They are really meshing well together and enjoying the game of basketball,” he continued.
The boys have won six of 13 games. Of those six wins two have been region wins — one against Troy and Eureka both away games.
“We look forward to the second half of the season and also to the struggles that come with meeting good teams down the road. We are a confident bunch that feels as though we can compete with anyone when we are playing well,” said Mickelson.
Though the boys have some losses on the board, it would seem that it is coming down to not getting the “sync” to grab those wins.
Looking at the final scores of the games played so far, a majority of the losses haven’t been from lack of trying on the court. The scores of those losses show that should there have been more time the team would have had a solid chance of coming out with a win.
Mickelson is holding positive that the second half of the season will see great basketball played for the Sanders County class B team.
“We have several seniors that are key contributors for us each day in practice as well as on game day,” he said.
“Our game plan heading in to the next few weeks is to heal up from a couple bumps and bruises we have and be playing our best basketball at tournament time,” he continued to say.
With two new assistant coaches on the team this year, Mickelson is confident as they continue to grow as a team they will only continue to get better results on the courts.
“Both my assistant coaches, Mike Benson and Scott Pardee, have been instrumental in building this team to achieve the most success possible. They have been great additions in their first year and I look forward to seeing our relationship grows as well as their relationship with the players,” he said.
“The credit really does get spread around on this team to quite a few different players,” he added.
A coach not too stressed about what the first half presented, he’s looking forward knowing what the capabilities of both his players and coaches can help him achieve to finish strong this season.
