Three graduating seniors from Mineral County high schools have been chosen to receive college scholarships. To qualify a graduate must submit an application which is reviewed by the MCCF Board. Selections are made based on five factors; (1) community service, (2) leadership qualities, (3) scholastic achievement, (4) extracurricular activities and (5) overall character.

This year two $500 scholarships were awarded to graduates of Superior High School. (MCCF did not receive any applications from Alberton High School.) A St. Regis student was awarded the $1500 scholarship as an “outstanding” graduate from the county with an emphasis on volunteer service to her community.

Anna Sanford, St. Regis H.S., volunteered many hours of service for a variety of non-profits and fundraising events in her community. These efforts, plus high scholastic achievement and extra-curricular activities earned her the $1,500 scholarship. Anna plans to attend Gonzaga University to attain a degree in Business. Anna stated her goal is “… to become a domestic manager in an export trading company. In this position, I would be responsible for seeking out domestic companies that may benefit from expanding into the global market and oversee the movement of goods between countries…” Her further interest after gaining experience in the business world is to return to college to get a teaching degree in business. “If I can one day share my experiences and beliefs with prospective business students, then all the work… will have been worth it.”

Hailey Kelly of Superior H.S. received a $500 scholarship and plans to attend the University of Montana. “I plan on beginning my college career majoring in Health and Human Performance, with an emphasis in Physical Education. The next four years will be full of challenges and new experiences but I feel fully equipped to take them on.”

Kaleb Ververis of Superior H.S. received a $500 scholarship and will attend the University of Montana Western in Dillon. His goal is to achieve an Associate of Science Degree, a Bachelor of Science Degree, and then a Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of Montana. “I feel my background in athletics and my interest in science will lend themselves to a successful career path. I also realize a career in the medical field is a way I can give back to the community.”

“Congratulations to all of the winner, we wish you great success as you begin your higher education studies this fall. Your scholarships are funded with proceeds from the annual “Old Schoolhouse Rock Car Show” sponsored by the Mineral County Community Foundation. Thank you to everyone who supported, in any way, to this significant community event,” said foundation secretary, Liz Gupton.
