The two big events for Plains Day celebrations outside of sports, was of course the ever popular Turtle Races and the Lions Dunk Tank.

With crowds holding at both big-draw events on Saturday, it was hard to say which had the bigger interest.

However, it was hard to beat the smiles and excitement on young faces at the turtle races at Rocky Mountain Bank.

As the kids readied their turtles, ensuring they were kept cool until they raced their heats, there were turtles of all sizes that presented in the hopes of being crowned the big winner.

Some turtles also boasted fun and unique artworks on their shells showing the care their kids gave to make a great impression during the race.

Each turtle had to compete against six of their counterparts in each of the heats until the winners of each heat went head to head in the finals.

However it was young Sariah who took first place as this years champion.

Though there was a huge crowd packed tightly around the turtle race circle, there was just as big of a crowd that lined up to watch Plains and Sanders County community locals get dunked in the Lions Dunk Tank.

The line up of ran from 10:30 a.m. through to 4 p.m. on the greenway with Tyrell Allen, Carol Brooker, Marlin Cooper, Adam Aguilera, Steve Spurr, James Russell, John Curry, Kayle O’brian, Shauna, and Jim Holland sit on the plank while kids, friends and family took turns to see who would get a cool drop in the tiny pool.

There was plenty of laughter from those who walked past and those who stood to watch the fun of this year’s dunk tank.

As the crowds gathered to all events it was hard to choose what event was truly the most entertaining on the day.

The Amundson Sports Complex was jam-packed through out the day as spectators converged to watch the action-packed sporting events including 3-on-3 basketball, 3-point and free-throw contests and the co-ed softball tournament on Sunday that wrapped up the weekend’s events.

The 2018 Plains Day celebrations was a hit with hundreds of families making their way around town to enjoy the free events and share more than a few smiles and laughs.
