Steve Trollope has been hired as the new Mineral County undersheriff and started in his new role on May 1. Previously, he worked for the Montana Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation Narcotics Bureau for eight years. He covered cases with the Mineral County Sheriff’s Department and got to know the deputies including Sheriff Mike Boone. He also worked with Boone in the Missoula police department where Trollope worked for 23 years.

“It was time for a change,” he said about his new job. “I’ve spent a lot of time in Mineral County hunting and fishing and love it here.”

He’s looking forward to working in a smaller department and hoping for a less stressful environment. He also was on the Drug Diversion Task Force, working on prescription drug abuse cases. Between both agencies there was a lot of paperwork and stress, “it was really too much for one person,” he said.

He feels Mineral County is a great place to live and is totally impressed with the department so far. He has also felt very welcomed by the community. Though he knows his new job will come with its own set of challenges he feel this will be a good experience for him.
