Meetings set on Community Wildfire Protection updates

Since December of 2017 Mineral County has been working to update the county’s 2005 Community Wildfire Protection Plan.

This is a plan for addressing the risks and associated impacts of wildfires in a community. After working with local, state, and federal stakeholders Mineral County has developed a draft Community Wildfire Protection Plan which is available for review at the Mineral County Planning Department (300 River St. in Superior) or on the Planning Department webpage (http://co.mineral.mt.us/departments/environmental-healthplanning/).

Mineral County’s 2018 update is intended to provide the county and its local, state, and federal partners with a path forward for planning for the inevitability of wildfire and minimizing its impacts to Mineral County communities. The 2018 Wildfire Protection Plan update provides an updated wildfire risk assessment and definition of the wildland-urban interface in Mineral County. Additionally, the plan addresses how Mineral County can work to better prepare for and adapt to wildfire and also provides specific actions for moving forward.

The county has opened the plan’s public comment period and is seeking feedback on the draft Wildfire Protection Plan from the Mineral County community.

Public comments will be accepted until Friday, April 20. Comments can be submitted to the Mineral County Planning Department by email at tread@co.mineral.mt.us, or by mail to 300 River Street, Superior, MT 59872.
