Montana Aussie adventures with Erin-Jay

I wonder how many kids around the county are as excited as I am about the Easter Bunny’s impending stop?

Yep, that’s right, another fun-filled holiday that I get excited about. Though this year will be a little different to those in the past.

My usual Easter weekend adventures consisted of traveling to rodeo’s and jackpots back home as it is a four-day weekend nationally.

Here in the States, I don’t get the four-day weekend, but this year there will hopefully be a few adventures I will attempt to discover as a possibly new tradition.

This past week I haven’t really had anything overly exciting to share as far as local discoveries go, which is a little strange for me. But one thing I did come across was an old Facebook status that came up in my memories.

As we all do, I scroll through the news feed, and check on the memories from yesteryear and was happily greeted with a few things I had forgotten about.

The first one was when I was part of a big feature in the high-end lifestyle magazine of Townsville called DUO Magazine. Now when I say high-end, it’s geared toward all walks of life, but features more those high-end, luxury-styled stories.

It’s actually really good to read, I am probably so use to it that I am not actually describing it effectively.

But nonetheless, it was a feature piece as part of a university article that I was asked to be apart of.

James Cook University (where I got me degree) is know for its tropical sciences programs, and medicine mainly; so even at the time I was completely shocked that I was asked to represent the face of the university for this feature piece in DUO.

But, being me, of course I said yes. I even brought a little cowgirl to the photo shoot as well, with an extremely vibrant sugar skull design long sleeve shirt. You laugh, but I did it!

So I sat back and read what I had said, and thought on where I had come and where I am going. I have certainly ticked off a few items I alluded to in my article, some I am still waiting to grab as opportunity didn’t line up as neatly the first time, but hey, if it did I wouldn’t be here… and I am sure glad to be here just so you all know.

So to give you an idea on my drive, and hopefully inspire at least one of you reading this; if you don’t set your goals high enough how are you expected to climb and sit amongst the stars?

So I’ll leave it here underneath for now, until next week Sanders County …. Hoo Roo

A self-described small town cowgirl, 31-year-old Erin Jusseaume is passionate about all aspects of the rural industry. She’s gotten her hands dirty on cattle properties, worked as a stable hand, loper and even went to the Burdekin Agricultural College in Clare when it was running.

“I want to be the reporter that people in the bush trust, respect and go to first to get their story out there,” Erin says.

Now in her third and final year of a Bachelor of Multimedia Journalism degree, Erin already has an impressive portfolio with articles published national in The Horse Downunder, Australian Performance Horse, The Australian Times Outback Magazine and internationally in Barrel Horse News.

“One of my proudest moments happened last year when The Today Shows’s sports reporter, Tim Gilbert, cane to Townsville doing a live broadcast for the sporting segment. I got up at 3am after driving back from a week long event the day before in Central Queensland to get to Tim and pitch my story on the 2015 Australasian Team Roping Association national finals.”

“I’m proud to say that my story made the news that morning with my footage going to air.”

The end game for Erin has always been to create her own magazine to help bridge the gap between the USA and Australia in the rodeo training and arena space.

“We have some outstanding talent here in Australia that should be showcased on the world stage,” Erin says.

“I’m setting my portfolio up to hopefully for with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association media team or the newly formed Elite Rodeo Athletes in the USA.”
