Staff and students started their week at Alberton School without their long-time Principal and Athletic Director, Kyle Fisher. He turned in his resignation last week and April 25 was his final day at the school. Fisher had been embroiled in issues regarding his leadership over the past few months. He was put on administrative leave from Feb. 9 to March 8 earlier this year. However, due to his right to privacy, during the March Alberton School Board meeting, his absence could not be discussed.

During that meeting, some parents expressed their difficulty in dealing with Fisher and said complaints lodged against him were not addressed. However, details were not allowed to be discussed during the meeting because it was “not on the agenda” according to the Board Chair, Andrew Knapp.

Another complaint at the meeting was the school’s lack of transparency regarding his absence. “We just want transparency,” said Jenn Fredette who has a student at the school. “We don’t know what did or did not happen but as parents at the very least, we deserve to know about it (Fisher being put on leave).”

Alberton Superintendent, Steve Picard who is on a part-time schedule, acknowledged that he should have informed parents about it and was filling in during Kyle’s absence on a full-time basis.

“A lot of people here support Kyle, and that’s fine and goes along with open meeting laws.” Picard had said during the March meeting. “If we get into anything individual it has to be on the agenda and posted and then that individual would have the right to a closed board session which means everybody would leave except those involved.”

Additional information regarding Fisher’s resignation was not available by press time.
