As flooding continues around Mineral County, sand is available at the Superior town yard located near the Town Pump. Sandbags are available at the Superior Fire Department. Sand and bags are also available at the St. Regis and Frenchtown Rural Fire Departments.

Armed Forces Day

Armed Forces Day Celebration May 19, 2018 - 11:00 a.m. at the Superior High School. The public is encouraged to attend. The program will honor all Veterans in Mineral County with guest speaker Chuck Lewis, Sgt. USMC. The event will include the program, dinner, and the Cabin Fever Quilters will be handing out quilts to local Veterans who haven’t already received one. Questions call 822-2213

Superior Recycling Center

Saturday also marked the opening of the Superior Recycling Center located in the Town Yard on Mullan Road West. Regular hours will be 10 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday and Saturday. Residents receive one coupon per month to use the facility and after that they are asked for a donation. The facility takes junk mail, cardboard, newspaper, tin, aluminum cans and plastic bottles.

Prescribed burns in Petty Creek area May 15-18

Ninemile Ranger District will be conducting a prescribed burn in the Petty Creek Drainage the week on May 15-May 18.

These units are part of the Petty Creek Big Game Ecosystem Burning Project. Hand and aerial ignitions will be utilized. Approximately 450 acres will be completed in the Printers and Spring Creek area if weather, fuel conditions, and air quality allow for safe and effective ignition and burning. Smoke can be expected and most likely settle in the morning hours.

Partnerships include: Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Mule Deer Foundation, Wild Sheep Foundation, National Wild Turkey Federation, and Upland Game Bird Enhancement Program.

St. Regis Memorial Day Flea Market May 26-28

The 41st annual Memorial Day Flea Market will be held on May 26-28, 2018.

There will be vendors selling their wares, food and entertainment. Hours: Daylight-Dusk at the community park.

Superior Cleanup Day May 19

Superior will also host a Cleanup Day on May 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. where the Town Council will furnish large dumpsters for town residents. They will accept appliances and street tires removed from the rim. Household and business garbage is not accepted and people can call (406) 822-4672 and pre-arrange for curbside pickup of major appliances and furniture. This cleanup project is only available to residents within town limits.

Pool in the Park Fundraiser June 8

There will be a fundraiser for the new pool in the Eva Horning Park on June 8 with a BBQ and Bingo. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. with bingo at 6 p.m. It will be held at the Mineral County Fair Grounds.

Mineral County High School Graduations

All three Mineral County High School graduations will be held on May 27. Alberton’s at 2 p.m., St. Regis will be at 6 p.m., Superior n/a. Call schools for additional information.

Senior Center meal schedule

—Superior Senior Center serves free dinners to residents who are 90 years old and older. Dinner is every Wednesday starting at 4:30 p.m.

—St. Regis Senior Center serves lunch every Thursday at noon and on the fourth Monday of every month at 6 p.m. May 17 is Hot Meatloaf Sandwiches May 21 is Ham and Scalloped Potatoes (in place of Bingo there will be a sweet dessert auction); May 24 is Pulled Pork; May 31 is Beef and Weenie Casserole.

—The Alberton Senior Center serves lunches on Tues. and Thurs. at noon.

Farmers Market is now open

The Alberton Farmers Market is open and is held on Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Community Center parking lot
