Jackie Garrigus was recently selected to the 2018 Lady II All-American trapshooting first team.

The Amateur Trapshooting Association determined this year’s select. Garrigus was selected into the senior shooters division.

The ATA hosts both the Grand American (11-day world tournament) and a series of satellite Grands — which are smaller regional tournaments providing Grand American style trophies and competition — as well as sponsoring five zone shoots.

For Garrigus to be considered for the All-American team, she had to meet a minimum target requirement and had to have competed in three states.

Garrigus competed as a nonresident and won significantly at the state shoots for California, Wyoming and Kansas. From those three shoots alone she amassed a total of 27 awards adding to her already impressive win pool for last year’s competition.

Selection was based on All-American points accumulated while securing trophies and posting high scores at tournaments throughout the country during the 2017 ATA target year.

Garrigus’ five-trophy performance at the Montana State shoot, included besting her category peers in the doubles championship as well as performing well in the 400-target all-around and 1,000-target high over all races.

Garrigus also had an impressive showing at the Autumn Satellite Grand, adding three victories and numerous team selection points to last year’s record.

During the Camus Prairie shoot, Garrigus triumphed six times and prevailed as the top Lady II competitor in the singles championship, the all-around and high overall races.

She also added another five wins at the Ron Hoppie tournament, dominating in the singles and doubles championships as well as the all-around, and high overall races again.

Garrigus is a staple at the local trap club. Cookie Kunzer, secretary for the club, said she and all the members couldn’t be more proud to have a representative such as Garrigus as part of such a prestigious select team.

“It’s great to see Jackie earn this spot on the team and have her representing the club and town of Plains,” said Kunzer.
