Plains Clean-Up Days hailed as a success

The inaugrual Plains Clean-Up Days was hailed a success by local council members.

Residents within the community pulled together over two days to clean the debris from yards, sidewalks and along the highway.

With the county aiding in providing a large dumpster for the town, plenty of trailers pulled up alongside to take advantage of discarding unwanted trash and household goods.

Mayor Danny Rowan said that volunteers had worked hard to help those that needed an extra hand, as well as helping with landscaping to brighten up the greenway along the main street of Plains.

Council member Sandy Chenoweth also helped co-ordinate the two day event stationing herself at the Fred Young Park to organize volunteer groups.

All in all, there were around 50 local residents who congregated to different areas around town, some even volunteering for both Friday and Saturday.

However, with the rainy weather that hung around, and the overnight showers that occurred, some of the residents that had asked for assistance in yard cleanup couldn’t actually get done.

“The rain made some yards very wet, which would not have been easy to mow. So we are keeping the list and when yards can dry out we will rally some helpers and get them cleaned up,” said Chenoweth.

With a dumpster full, white goods brought to the dump site making a pile as high as the hedges in front of the Public Works Department workshop, and plenty of smiling faces; it is safe to say that the first Plains Clean-Up Days were a success for the town and its residents.
