County hoop, wrestling teams preparing for season openers
Most Sanders County high school basketball and wrestling teams are halfway through their preseason practices in preparation for their 2018-19 seasons.
All but one of the county schools begin basketball competition at the Tip Off Tourney in Frenchtown a week from this Friday and Saturday, while Thompson Falls teams have single games the opening weekend.
While wrestlers in the Thompson Falls/Noxon co-op program have action the opening weekend, other Sanders County matmen — in the Plains/Hot Springs program — get into competition the weekend of Dec. 6 and 7.
Class C boys’ and girls’ hoop teams from Plains, Hot Springs and Noxon open with gusto at the Frenchtown tournament Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. That tournament schedule will be announced in next week’s Valley Press. In the meantime, Thompson Falls, from the Class B ranks, travels to Libby on Dec. 1 to take on their Class A teams.
On the wrestling mats, Thompson Falls/Noxon grapplers compete in the Polson Tournament on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. It is reported that there is one Noxon student-athlete in the program this season. Hot Springs sends four wrestlers to the Plains/Hot Springs co-op squad. They will host a quad meet on Friday, Dec. 6 to open the season.
