Lady Tiger, Cat spikers experience 'mixed bag'

The St. Regis Lady Tigers had a mixed bag over the week on the volleyball court with a loss to the Arlee Scarlets and a win over Victor.
During the Sept. 6 Arlee match at home, the Lady Tigers took a loss in a sweep with set scores of 8-25, 22-25 and 16-25. Senior Emma Hill led in team digs with 18 out of a total of 66 for the team. She also had nine of the team’s 19 set assists with Ashley Wilson also picking up nine. Kylee Thompson led in team in kills with seven of the team’s 34 total. Both Chloe Cielke and McKenzie Stortz had two of the team’s six blocks, and freshman, Kiya Taylor had two of the team’s six service aces.
It was a different story against the Lady Victor Pirates where the Tigers won in a marathon five-set match. See-saw scores were 20-25, 25-16, 20-25, 25-23 and 15-9.
Hill was on fire during the match and dished out all 16 of the team’s assists. She 21 out of the Tigers’ 67 digs, plus all nine of the St. Regis aces. Cielke had 11 of the team’s 19 kills while Rylie Burnham had two blocks.
St. Regis returned to competition Tuesday, Sept. 11 at home against Plains. The Lady Tigers play Thursday against Valley Christian in Missoula. Match times are 5:30 p.m. for junior varsity and about 7 p.m. for varsity.
CLARK FORK had a hard-fought loss on Thursday, Sept. 6 at home against Seeley-Swan, as the visitors won in four sets. Scores for the Blackhawks were 25-22, 24-26, 25-20 and 25-20.
Madison Mask and Margaret Parkin both had a great match with Margaret making 25 of the Cats’ 66 digs, and sharing the most kills with Emmah Baughman where each had nine. Mask led in assists with 22 out of a team total of 24, and had two out of six Clark Fork aces. Kathryn Parkin led the team in blocks with three.
The Mountain Cats traveled to take on the Lincoln Lady Lynx on Saturday, Sept. 8 and brought home a sweep. Set scores were 25-18, 25-17 and 25-12.
Mask continued her team leads against Lincoln. She had all 19 of the team’s assists, plus three of Clark Fork’s seven aces. Parkin led in kills with nine of the team’s 33, and freshman Sorren Reese had two blocks. Baughman had 22 of the Cats’ 76 digs.
Clark Fork’s next action is this Thursday at Plains. The junior varsity match starts at 5:30 p.m., with varsity action to follow around 7 p.m.
