Helicopter ignition controlled burn today near Perma
CSKT Division of Fire release
The Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribal Fuels Program and USFS Plains/Thompson Falls Range District plan to perform a helicopter ignition prescribed burn in the upper Knowles Creek and Little Money Drainages near Perma today, Wednesday, April 24. The prescribed burn is a large scale ecosystem maintenance burn intended to reduce natural fuels accumulations, rejuvenate browse conditions for game, and reintroduce the natural process of fire on the landscape. This project is a result of a multi-agency agreement between the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes, USFS and the Montana DNRC.
The area to be treated this week is delineated as Unit 8 on the USFS, and the entire unit on CSKT. The project area is approximately five miles east of Paradise, and approximately four miles west of Perma Bridge, in the upper reaches of Knowles Creek and Little Money Drainage.
Any questions regarding this project should be directed to the Plains/Thompson Falls RD office at 406-826-3821, or CSKT Division of Fire (Darrell Clairmont) 406-676-2550.
