Sanders County girls excel in T-Falls

The Sanders County girls teams, like their boys teams, showcased their ability to the rest of the competition at the Montana High School Association Class B-C track meet Tuesday afternoon at the Thompson Falls Invite.

The Thompson Falls, Hot Springs, Noxon and Plains teams were well represented at the Bluehawks’ Invitational, and there were several individuals who had top-five finishes in the events.

The Thompson Falls girls team, like the Bluehawks’ boys team, is younger than usual this year but that hasn’t stopped them from excelling in speed, distance, jumping and throwing events this season, as they represented their high school well in all phases of the track and field.

Lady Hawks dominate T-Falls Invite

The Lady Bluehawks showcased depth with several top-five performances throughout Tuesday’s Invitational.

Maya Stiles and Gabriella Pallister both finished in the top five in the 200-meter relay. Stiles finished third recording a time of 30.35 seconds, and Pallister finished fifth with a time of 30.85 seconds.

Sierra Hanks and Megan Baxter both finished strong in the 400-meter run. Hanks set a personal record of 1 minute, 9.23 seconds, and Baxter placed fifth with a time of 1 minute, 10.70 seconds. Hanks also finished third in the 800-meter run recording a time of 2 minutes 56.10 seconds. Josey Neesvig finished in third in the 1,600 meters run with a time of 6 minutes, 2.48 seconds.

Neesvig, along with teammate Shaylynda Walker, also excelled in the 3,200-meter race. Neesvig finished second behind Mission High School runner Karolyna Buck with a time of 13 minutes, 19.42 seconds, and Walker finished fourth in the 3,200 recording a personal record of 16 minutes, 48.10 seconds.

Stiles wasn’t done recording more accolades. She captured first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.73 seconds. Stiles’ teammates Riley Wilson placed third with a time of 19.29, and Pallister finished fourth with a time of 20.23 seconds.

Kacey VanZanten placed first in the 300-meter hurdles recording a time of 56.35 seconds.

The 4X100 relay team consisting of Pallister, Stiles, Trinity Godfrey and Megan Baxter placed third recording a time of 56.42 seconds. The Lady Bluehawks team consisting of Baxter, Sierra Hanks, Neesvig and Mckenzie Robins placed third in the 4X400 relay with a time of 4 minutes, 42.40 seconds.

Lady Hawks shine in throwing, jumping

The Thompson Falls girls track team showcased its versatility by placing several in the top five in both throwing and jumping events.

Stiles again placed first in the pole vault clearing a height of 8 feet, 6 inches, and Palliser finished second with a height of 7 feet.

Jody Detlaff placed second in the discus, and first in the high jump. Detlaff’s throw was 94 feet in the discus.

Detlaff finished first in the high jump with a distance of 4 feet, 8 inches.

Hot Springs’ Christensen excels

Hot Springs High School runner Katelyn Christensen placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.23 seconds, first in the 200-meter run with a time of 29.85 seconds, and third in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 7 inches.

Lady Savage Heat competitor Elena McAllister also had a top-five finish. McAllister finished third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 59.78 seconds.

Weltz showcases throwing talent at Bluehawk Invite

Noxon High School thrower Delaney Weltz placed first in the shot put, the javelin and the discus.

Weltz cleared a distance of 95 feet, 1 inch in the discus, and had a distance of 106 feet, 4 inches in the javelin, both resulting in first-place finishes. Weltz also set a personal record in the shot put with a distance of 33 feet, 5 inches.

Trotters shine at Bluehawk Invite

Plains High School has developed a reputation over the years for excelling in track, especially the girls teams.

This year looks to be no different for the Trotters’ track team.

The 4X100 relay team consisting of Audrey Brown, Lexa Craft, Rechel McNulty and Cree Lulack finished fourth with a time of 58.85 seconds.

Lulack also finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 1 minute, 1.03 seconds.

Trotters competitor Rachel Huenink finished fourth in the javelin with a recorded distance of 98 feet.
