The Plains Horsemen overcome a slow start to claim a 66-41 win over Valley Christian Friday.

Valley Christian held a 13-10 lead after the first quarter

But a 3-pointer by Jake Weyers capped an 11-4 run that gave the Horsemen a 21-17 lead.

The Horsemen started to expand their lead the end of the second quarter when 6-foot-2-inch junior Kade Pardee scored to make it 25-17.

After that, Parker Flock’s pass set up 5-foot-11-inch senior Treydon Brouillette for a basket to give Plains a 29-21 lead. Then, Brouillette’s 3-pointer made it 32-21.

In the second half, back-to-back baskets by Pardee pushed the lead to 17 points, 38-21.

But an Eagles’ 10-2 run got the deficit under double digits, leaving the score at 40-31.

The Horsemen answered with a 7-0 run to end the third quarter with a 16-point lead, 47-31.

“I thought it was a little bit sloppy, it was a lot sloppy in the first half,” head coach Tyrell Allen said. “I thought we had a lot of opportunities to make layups that we missed. We missed a ton of layups in the first quarter. If you look at the percentage in the second quarter, we had to have shot at least 80 percent. The second and third quarter were much better for us. I think the first home game out maybe we had a little bit of the jitters.”

Allen credited the play of Pardee.

“Kade Pardee had a fantastic game, not only scoring but he probably had the lead in rebounds for our team,” Allen said.

Saturday, the Horsemen dropped a close game to Seeley-Swan, 47-44.

In junior varsity action, the Plains Horsemen had a rocky start with Valley Christian leading 13-10.

But a free throw by Jayden Weeks tied the game at 13-13 with 5:30 left in the second quarter.

Later, Garth Parker scored to break the tie. Plains started to pull ahead, with speedy Tyson Brouillette scoring for a 21-17 lead.

At the end of the third quarter, Duncan Chisholm scored to make it a 10-point lead and Plains rolled to a 50-27 win.

The Horsemen played at Charlo Tuesday, after presstime. They are off until Jan. 3 when they host Thompson Falls.
