Basketball district tournaments are a time when high school memories are made, and Clark Fork Mountain Cat senior Korey Radford has one for his scrapbook. In the consolation game at the 13C District Tournament against Victor last Saturday, the teams were neck-and-neck throughout the game. With 34.7 seconds on the clock, Radford made a bucket, bringing the Cats within 53-52. Then Clark Fork sophomore Aaron Waddle got a steal on the inbounds pass, giving the Cats another possession. After a time out, Radford threw up the final basket with 16.2 second left for the win, 54-53.

Bryan Mask put up 20 points as the team’s high scorer.

The win gave the Cats a chance at qualifying for the Western C Divisional Tournament in Butte this Thursday through Saturday. They would have to win a challenge game against the Seeley-Swan Blackhawks at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Frenchtown. No scores available by press time for the Mineral Independent. The Blackhawks lost to the Darby Tigers in the District 13C championship game on Saturday evening, 65-38.

This is the second year in a row that the Cats have won the consolation game and have played in a challenge game for second place. Last year, the Cats faced Darby and lost their bid for a divisional berth.

THE CLARK Fork Lady Mountain Cats also clawed their way to the consolation championship game on Saturday after a win over Victor that morning, 39-26. The Lady Cats faced the Valley-Christian Lady Eagles and won, 58-29 — locking their spot in third place for 13C Districts. In the championship game, Seeley-Swan topped, 42-34. If Darby had won, the Lady Cats would have been able to challenge them for second place. The Cats took a hard-fought loss to Darby during Friday’s game, 40-33. That dropped them back into the losers’ bracket against Victor.

ST. REGIS’ Lady Tiger’s also lost their bid for divisional play. After a 14C District Tournament win against Noxon on Saturday, 45-26, in Pablo, they lost to Plains 53-31 and placed fourth. Charlo won against Arlee in a close game, 44-43, for the 14C championship. Plains challenged Arlee at 5:30 p.m. on Monday in Pablo for a berth at the Western C Divisional tournament at the Maroon Activity Center at Butte Central in Butte. No results were available at Mineral Independent press time on Monday.

The St. Regis boys lost to Hot Springs 77-69 on Saturday, dropping them out of the tournament. In the championship game, Arlee defeated Charlo, 80-49. Plains beat Hot Springs 52-47 in the consolation championship game.
