Eleanor Parkos

Eleanor Marie Parkos, 92, of Plains, Mont., passed away peacefully at Clark Fork Valley Hospital in Plains.

She was born on Feb. 27, 1926, in Richardton, N.D., to Baltzer and Amelia Hauck. After living in Richardton, N.D., Eleanor married Frank Black and moved to Towner, N.D., Milwaukee, Wisc., and back to New Rockford, N.D., where her husband was chief of police. Eleanor and Frank had four boys: David, Sebastian/Butch, Denver and Peter Black. She lost her husband Frank Black to cancer and moved to Bismarck, N.D., to continue her education.

Eleanor’s sons were all moved out and on their own except her youngest, Peter Black. She continued raising him until he was old enough to be on his own. Later in years, she remarried to M.C. Parkos and moved to Napolean, N.D. She enjoyed being around people, fishing, bowling, playing pinochle, traveling, driving her motorhome, music and dancing the polka and waltzes.

Eleanor also enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, baking, sewing, and crocheting. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, mother-in-law and friend to many. She was also a member of the Catholic Church all her life. She truly enjoyed life and showed many how to do this along with her. Her kindness and love touched everyone. She spent many of her last years living with her son and daughter-in-law, Sebastian and Linda Black in Plains, who took full-time care of her until her passing.

Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents, Baltzer and Amelia Hauck; and husbands, Frank Black and M.C. Parkos; sons, David and Denver Black; and grandsons, Denny and Dustin Black. She is survived by her oldest sister Vie Hanke; sons, Sebastian “Butch” and Peter Black, and daughter-in-law Linda Black; grandchildren, Tiffany and Joell Janderas, Aaron Black, Ashley Black, Ayla and Sean Duffield, Brian and Alison Black, Darin Black, Devin and Jermiah Johnson, Dez Black, Dominque Black, Lisa Black and Monica Black; and many great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

A viewing, rosary and shared memories will be held by Father Jeff Benusa at St. James Catholic Church in Plains at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4. A funeral will then take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5 with a luncheon to follow. The burial will be decided at a later date.
