Wrestlers compete in Mission Mountain Classic

St. Regis takes a loss to Arlee

St. Regis basketball teams experienced a double loss on the road to Arlee on Dec. 21. The boys lost 70-25 (stats n/a) while the girls were defeated 61-31. The Arlee Scarlets came out strong, putting 42 points on the board by halftime with the Lady Tigers at 11. The second half of the game tightened the gap with Arlee putting up another 18 points to the Tigers’ 20, but it wasn’t enough for a win. Emma Hill had the team high of 12 points, and Madison Kelly had seven. Kylee Thompson had four points. Rylie Burnham and Makaela Kelly put up three each, and Ashley Wilson added two.

Next, St. Regis will face Plains on Thursday, Jan. 3 at home and then away against Two Eagle River on Friday, Jan. 4.

Superior/Alberton falls to Seeley-Swan

The Clark Fork Mountain Cats traveled to Seeley on Dec. 20, suffering losses to the Blackhawks. The girls came out of the first quarter only trailing by two points. By the half, there was only a three-point spread. In the third quarter, the Lady Cats managed to pull ahead by one point, 34-33. But in the fourth quarter, the Blackhawks flew past the the Lady Cats, putting 20 points up to their 13 for a final score of 53-47.

Madison Mask led the team with 21 points. Sophie Krutilla had nine; Zoey Kelsey, six; Darby Haskins and Margaret Parkin each with four each; Emma Baughman, two; and Sorren Reese, one.

Seeley-Swan’s boys came out strong in the first half against the Cats with 41 points on the board by the half, to 23. The second half of the game evened out where the Blackhawks only scoring one more bucket than the Cats, 15 to 13, and both scored 13 points in the fourth. But the Blackhawks put up too much of a lead in the first half, leaving the Cats in the dust with a final score of 69-49.

Carson Callison led the Cat charge with 16 points followed by Bryan Mask with 13 and Aaron Waddle 12. Michael Spence had six, while Javen Hughes and Korey Radford had one each.

The Mountain Cats will face Victor in Alberton on Thursday, Jan. 3 and Two Eagle River in Superior on Friday, Jan. 4.

Mountain Cats travel to St. Ignatius

On Dec. 22, the Clark Fork Mountain Cat wrestlers traveled to the Mission Mountain Classic tournament in St. Ignatius. No team scores were kept. At 132 pounds, Mountain Cat Wes Buchannen pinned Aaron Edens of Florence in just 34 seconds, and at 138, Cole Gilleard from St. Ignatius pinned Buchannen.

At 145 pounds, Caden Plasier from Florence pinned Silas Acker from Clark Fork in 1:15, and Cole Gilleard pinned Cat Hunter Haskins in 4.25. Darwin Adams from St. Ignatius pinned Jake Calloway at 1:49, and Jon Chamberlin from Florence decisioned Isaiah Kovalsky of Clark Fork, 9-2. Haskins then pinned Zach Harrington from Florence in 4:28. Adams pinned Kovalsky at 2:52, and Harrington pinned Acker in 58 seconds. Haskins decisioned Plasier, 18-14.

At 152 pounds, Isaac Dumontier from St. Ignatius won by technical fall over Thomas Anderson of Clark Fork, 17-0. Anderson pinned Kayden Carter in 21 seconds, and Acker also pinned Carter in :54. Adams pinned Anderson in 2:45.

The Mountain Cats compete in the Western Montana Duals on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 4 and 5 in Ronan, and host the Superior Quad on Tuesday, Jan. 8.
