The Hilltop Motel in Superior was destroyed in a fire that started on Saturday night.

Superior Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire at the motel on West Mullan and River street on Saturday at around 7 p.m.

Mutual assistance units including, St. Regis, West End Volunteer and Frenchtown Rural Fire Departments and law enforcement responded shortly after the initial dispatch. Superior led crews to extinguish the fire until 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, St. Regis Assistant Fire Chief Kat Kitteridge said. All guests exited the building before the fire grew. A neighbor across the street spotted the fire and called dispatchers. “The motel was fully engulfed and destroyed, and the other buildings (nearby) are still sustained,” Kitteridge said. Emergency responders believe the fire originated from the driers, Kitteridge said. Nobody sustained injuries from the fire.
