A month ago tragedy struck the Doble family when their 9-year-old daughter was accidentally shot during a hunting trip.

Rachel Doble, the mother, and her 10-year-old daughter, Sage, were hunting, and reportedly getting back into their vehicle when there was a misfire.

The accident happened somewhere between Thompson River Road and Upper Lynch Creek road. Sage was rushed to Clark Fork Valley Hospital and was later flown to Spokane’s Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital. Sage then underwent surgery on her 10th birthday, Oct 12. She has been able to recover; however the financial tremors of the event are still being felt by the family.

There was a GoFundMe page set up to benefit the family which has so far raised nearly $10,000; however, this is still a drop in the bucket compared to the overall costs.

The town of Plains has since sprung into action to help one of their own, again.

Local Whitney Tanner-Spurr, and several others, together organized a fun run that was held last weekend on Sunday. The registration fee was $30 and included a special shirt, designed by Mrs. Tanner-Spurr. The shirt featured a sasquatch, Sage’s favorite.

The registration fee also included spaghetti dinner after the run. Those who did not wish to participate in the run could just take part in the dinner. There were around 50 participants in the 5k run, and many more than participated in the dinner. The spaghetti dinner was served by the local Lyons Members.

Hot chocolate and cinnamon sticks were provided.

Sage was able to participate in the run benefiting her family and did so dressed in her Bigfoot costume. Whitney Tanner-Spurr loves running and has organized several runs for causes before, so she decided that it would be a great way to get support from the community for the Doble family.

The event also included a silent auction, an art auction, outdoor equipment and much more.

There was also a 50/50 raffle done by the fire department and a raffle for a gun, chainsaw, firewood and more. According to Mrs. Tanner-Spurr “this community really comes together and does what needs to be done to help their own.”
