Area football players honored

The honors are pouring in for local 8-man football players, including Clark Fork two-way standout Trey Green who was named first team on both sides of the ball.

Green, a running back and linebacker on the Mountain Cats squad, was also named offensive and defensive MVP for the 2019 Western Conference Team.

Green was joined on the all-state squad by fellow Clark Fork players two-way lineman Jacob Lapinski, a trio of wideouts and defensive backs in Isaiah Kovolsky, Houston Coon and Kyler Francis, as well as junior quarterback Bryan Mask. All but Mask are seniors.

Other area players named to the all-state team included Thompson Falls players Trey Fisher (quarterback, defensive back), Jack Jacobsen (two-way lineman) and Nate Willhite (running back). All are seniors.

Clark Fork was also well represented on the Western All-Conference offensive team, with Mask sharing first team honors with Flint Creek’s Kade Cutler; junior Aaron Waddle (2nd team center); Kovalsky (1st team wide receiver); junior Jake Calloway (1st team slot back); Green (1st team running back); and Coon (1st team wide receiver).

Thompson Falls landed five on the Western offensive squad, led by Fisher (who shared 1st team honors with Green); Brad Lantz (1st team center); Jacobsen (1st team offensive line); Justin Miller (2nd team offensive line); and Dakota Irvine (2nd team tight end).

Plains landed two players on the Western offensive team, senior Esvin Reyes (2nd team running back); and junior Tucker Foster (2nd team offensive line).

The Western Conference All-Defensive team also featured seven players from Clark Fork and five from Thompson Falls. Green (CF) and Fisher (TF) led the pack with both earning first team honors as linebackers.

For Clark Fork, Lapinski added defensive lineman 1st team honors to his similar award on the offensive side of the ball. Kovalsky was named 1st team defensive back while Francis was named to the 2nd team defensive backfield. Coon made the squad’s 1st team list at defensive end; Wesley Buchanan was chosen to the 1st team outside linebacker group; and Calloway made 2nd team outside linebacker.

In addition to Fisher, Thompson Falls was represented by Irvine (1st team defensive line);

Roman Sparks (2nd team defensive back); Willhite (2nd team defensive end); and Brandon Zimmerman (1st team outside linebacker).

The Horsemen from Plains landed two players on the all-defense team: Reyes (2nd team inside linebacker); and Tucker Foster (1st team defensive line).
