NAME: Karrie Shinnick-Lulack

OCCUPATION: Administrator at Block Mountain Slate and Stone, Inc.

1. What are your qualifications to be a school trustee?

I have experience serving on different bords over the years. I can contribute intelligent and sensible solutions when it comes to issues and problem solving. I work well with a team of motivated individuals and strive to see things through and accomplish goals.

2. Why did you decide to run for election?

I started attending board meetings this past year in support of an arising issue and realized that I wanted to be a part of the solution rather than just complaining and expecting others to solve it. I enjoyed being an informed parent. I believe that all issues that arise have their own set of complexities and I would like to be a part of keeping our local school on track, particularly with the students’ best interests in mind. I strive to work with, and for, our community with the goal of improving our district’s school. I feel it is imperative to support our school system and help provide our students with a strong foundation so they can attain their best possible future. I feel confident that I would be a beneficial addition to the team of board members.

3. What do you like about the school district?

I feel that our school district has a committed and caring staff. I believe our school and staff strive to create a positive learning environment.

4. What are your views on the use of technology?

I believe it can be an effective tool in learning. With our recent shelter in place situation I feel our school has a functional set up. As with everything Google classroom is not without flaws but once you learn how the program works, I feel that it is quite functional. I’m grateful as a parent that Google classroom was in place and our students were already familiar with it.

5. What, if any, improvements do you feel are necessary?

Budget issues and funding. Student discipline standards and enforcement. Getting community input on issues in a productive manner. Safety measures, such as student expulsion practices and the presence of local law enforcement. These issues not only apply to our school but also nationwide.
