Missing man found dead in Clark Fork River

The Mineral County Sheriff’s Office has located the body of a man who went missing in March.

Jacob Hogsett, 35, of Billings was reported missing March 6 to the Sheriff’s Office, according to Sheriff Mike Boone.

The Sheriff’s Search & Rescue team canvassed the area from Tarkio (Exit 61 on I-90) west and north to Superior (Exit 47).

His cell phone responded from Martel Mountain one time and there were unconfirmed reports in the Superior area for several days. He was reportedly seen in Kalispell, so the Kalispell Police Department was notified, with no results.

A local resident of the Tarkio area had contact with him, giving him gas and sent him back to the interstate. His vehicle was located behind a gated residence by a caretaker for the residence who had been watching the property for the owner.

A further search of the area found his body in the Clark Fork River which appeared he had fallen off a cliff into the river.

The body was sent to the Montana Crime lab for an autopsy.

Court documents and media accounts indicate Hogsett was involved in a 2006 robbery at a Whitefish motel where two Missoula men were attacked and robbed.
