Othello Community Garden has open plots

| April 21, 2020 6:29 PM

OTHELLO — The Othello Community Garden has garden plots available for any community members who wish to garden but do not have garden space available to them.

“Not all spaces were filled last year,” said Tracy Field, garden trustee. “I’m hoping this year might be different. People may be wanting to grow more of their own stuff now.”

There are no restrictions on what is allowed to be planted in the garden, except that it be legal to grow. Growers don’t need to worry about watering, as the garden has an automatic drip irrigation system.

Those working in the garden are being asked to observe proper social distancing and to wear a mask while working in the garden. Gloves are optional.

“Social distancing is usually not a problem,” Field said. “You’re over there by yourself.”

Plots consist of two four feet by 12 feel sections. Field has approximately 12 plots available. They are $30 a year.

Anyone wishing to rent a plot should call Field at 509-989-3988. The Othello Community Garden is located next to the Othello Nazarene Church, off Scootney Street, near Wahitis Elementary School.
