Conrad's Corner: The Job
Editor’s note: The following story was written by 12-year-old Conrad Talbot. He is in the sixth grade at Superior Elementary School.
George knew that his job was important, he knew it was hard and serious, but he had to do it.
He put on his uniform and hopped into his small green car and headed off to his important job.
He ran into the building and grabbed his apron, and his scooper.
Just then a little boy came up and said, “mint chip, please??”
“Yes sir, coming right up!” George said politely.
He walked into the freezer to find the mint chip was GONE!
His face turned pale, his hands started to sweat, and he was frozen in place. Then he had an idea, he trudged over to the kid.
“Wait here I’ll be right back,” he said.
George ran out the backdoor, and got back into his tiny green car and drove to the nearest store. When the door to the store slid open, George flew in, he rushed past all the isles straight to the ice cream section
When he got there he saw it.. The last mint chip ice cream!
He flung open the door, George grabbed the carton and ran to the cashier. Thankfully no line!
“That will be $5.99” the dopey cashier said. Without hesitation George tossed a $10 bill at the cashier and bolted off with the ice cream.
His little green car revved up as he headed back to the ice cream shop. He ran quickly back in through the backdoor. He snatched up a cone, and plopped a big scoop of the mint chip into the cone. He hurried over to the boy and handed him the cone.
“Sorry it took so long!” George exclaimed. “Anything for some ice cream,” the boy said happily.
Not all heroes wear capes, in this case, this hero wore an apron.
