Haugan annual snowmobile poker ride cancelled
The Annual Super Poker Ride has been a staple in Mineral County on the last Saturday of January since 1989.
With the exception of 2005, when the ride was cancelled due to lack of snow, hundreds gather every year in Haugan to enjoy a snowmobile ride through the beautiful Western Montana mountain trails.
Since 1989, the family friendly ride is not just that. The financial boost to the local economy has been substantial as well with an estimated total exceeding $613,000 paid into the West End community (i.e. gas purchases, lodging, food, etc).
In addition, the Montana Nightriders make a charitable contribution each year to a local organization using a portion of the proceeds generated by the sale of the poker hands, totaling more than $1,000.
Almost 25,000 poker hands have been purchased and more than $74,000 in winnings paid to the approximate 10,500 riders over the course of 32 rides.
This is no small feat for a snowmobile club founded by a few hardworking snow lovers that wanted an “excuse” to get out and ride together with their families after a long week at work.
The dedication of its club members, ride participants, volunteers and sponsors, along with the partnership of the U.S. Forest Service and the 50,000 Silver Dollar Bar has made this all possible each and every year.
After countless hours of discussion, lost sleep, and brainstorming, the Montana Nightriders Poker Ride Committee and Board of Directors regretfully announce that we will not be holding the 33rd Annual Super Poker Ride as originally planned Jan. 30, 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Race organizers thanked those whom have continuously supported their efforts over the previous 32 rides and they look forward to seeing everyone for an even bigger and better event in 2022 on Saturday Jan. 29.
