Superior students enjoy Lookout ski trip

On Jan. 23, a Superior Elementary winter right of passage continued.

The fifth and sixth grade classes traveled to Lookout Pass Ski Area for their annual ski trip.

Superior Elementary School sixth grade teacher Seth Kuhl can attest to the yearly tradition.

“I remember going on the ski trip when I was in sixth grade in Superior 25 years ago!” Kuhl said.

Nine parents and four teachers journeyed up to the mountain with a total of 52 students. Each child was equipped with boots and poles, skis, snowboards, and helmets. Lookout’s professional ski school gave all the students a lesson. Once they covered the basics students were allowed to hit the slopes with friends and chaperones based on the level of their abilities.

Sixth grade student Mekenna Greuter beamed, saying “It’s really fun and my instructor brought my group up on the big slope and I fell down a couple of times.”

From the perspective of sixth grade students Danika Wilson, Hannah Vanderploeg, and Brendan Anderson, the ski trip was a successful outing.

Kuhl also concluded, “The day went great! Students all had fun and the best part is, we did not have any injuries!”

Another sixth grade student, Hope Constant reported, “I really liked snowboarding! It is pretty easy too!”

Each year the fifth and sixth grade students raise funds for their ski trip by selling tickets for a raffle on Christmas baskets. Each kid needs to raise $40 for a pass, lesson, rentals and helmet.
