Ten Sanders County wrestlers qualify for state

Ten wrestlers from Sanders County qualified for the state tournament this week at MetraPark in Billings.

Last Saturday at the Class B-C Division in St. Ignatius at Mission High School, Thompson Falls had six wrestlers qualify and scored 118 points to finish fourth while Plains/Hot Springs have four headed to state. It scored 61 points and was seventh. The top four place finishers advanced.

Clark Fork (Superior-Alberton), which scored 183.5 points, nearly knocked off the host Mission-Charlo Bulldogs, which totaled 187 points.

The Blue Hawks had a champion in 120-pounder Trae Thilmony.

Elijah Ratliff at 132 pounds, Dane Chojnacky at 170 and Will McPherson at 285 were each second.

Shane Reishus was third at 138 and Seth Alacorn was fourth at 182 pounds.

Prior to the beginning of the finals, a moment of silence was held in memory of Thompson Falls Superintendent of Schools William “Bill” Cain, who died late last week.

Cain came to Thompson Falls in July 2018 from East Lansing, Michigan.

For the Plains/Hot Springs squad, Brady Schrenk (113) and Conrad Vanderwall (138) each placed second. Mason Elliott (120) and Bert Detienne (152) were fourth.
